14.12.02 Holly Hunter To Receive Sundance Festival Tribute |
(Salt Lake City, UT, December 2002) - The Sundance Institute has announced that Holly Hunter is this year&';s recipient of the Sundance Institute Tribute to Independent Vision Award to be presented at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival, January 16 - 26, 2003. The Award honors a film artist who has made a significant and unique contribution to independent film. The Festival will host a tribute to Ms. Hunter on Tuesday, January 21, 2003 at the Egyptian Theatre in Park City, featuring retrospective film clips, an onstage interview, the presentation of the Tribute to Independent Vision Award and an awards after-party to celebrate Ms. Hunter&';s achievements.

Holly Hunter has garnered a worldwide cinema audience with performances in such diverse films as BROADCAST NEWS (1987), RAISING ARIZONA (1987), MISS FIRECRACKER (1989), ALWAYS (1989), THE FIRM (1993), HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS (1995), CRASH (1996), LIVING OUT LOUD (1998) and MOONLIGHT MILE (2002).
Hunter's lead role as Ada McGrath in Jane Campion's film THE PIANO (1994) earned top Best Actress honors at the Academy Awards®, Golden Globes, Cannes Film Festival and National Society of Film Critics. She also received a Best Actress Academy Award® nomination for BROADCAST NEWS (1987) and a Best Supporting Actress nomination for THE FIRM (1993). Hunter has also made her mark in television, winning an Emmy Award for her roles in ROE VS. WADE (1989) and THE POSITIVELY TRUE ADVENTURES OF THE ALLEGED TEXAS CHEERLEADER - MURDERING MOM (1993).
